CURATED.

Collection by Portia de Rossi

We tend to think about art as an individual piece, but art doesn’t live in a white cube, it lives in a home. Not only does a work have to speak to you, but it also has to speak to other pieces in the room. With this in mind we started our program called Curated, where we invite interior designers, art folk, and tastemakers to curate a collection of pieces that all work together in a single space.

My collection is about color, in that it is mostly absent of color, but when it is used it’s incredibly impactful and bold. Time Out by Michela Sorrentino is bright and gestural, which really compliments the graphic lines of Antonella Sacconi's black and white architectural photography. The stylized mark making in Wabi Sabi by Nicholas Tramontin and Napkin Sketches by Dustin Rousseau stand out against their dark backgrounds, and point to the shapes and marks in Ancient Wisdom by Keren Toledano. Fabian Albertini’s piece White Sea III is a photographic work which has been over painted, tying the photographic pieces in the collection with the painted works. I feel like every good collection should incorporate all kinds of media, paintings, photographs, and even posters. Which is why I am including a poster of Acrobat by Henri Matisse in my collection. I think his bold lines really compliment the other pieces in the collection, like the curves in Trip and Ancient Wisdom.

The pieces in my collection were selected for their ability to pair beautifully with each other, but they are all also incredibly striking on their own as well. I hope that my curation inspires you in considering the way that pieces interact with each other in a space.
